PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

BRC began operating its newest program, the Jack Ryan Residence, in August 2011. The Jack Ryan Residence, funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services, is a 200-bed shelter for homeless men living with mental illness. The program provides a complete range of mental health stabilization, medication management, case management, and medical services aimed at moving residents into permanent housing. The ultimate goal of the program is to place its clients into appropriate, supportive housing within nine months.

HOURS:

Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Saturday, Monday & Friday; 7:30a - 9:30p

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work in team of four to coordinate healthcare of 200 homeless, mentally ill men in shelter. Conduct nursing intakes and ongoing health monitoring. Dispense medication, monitor client compliance, process physicians' orders, and obtain prescriptions. Liaison with medical and psychiatric providers and hospitals. Provide patient education. Respond to medical emergencies, and provide emergency first aid/CPR when needed. Respond to other program crises as well. Work collaboratively with staff from other departments to fulfill program mission. Ensure compliance with regulatory and agency guidelines. Related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

NYS LPN license required. Minimum two years LPN employment and experience working with individuals with mental illness, the homeless, and/or individuals with history of substance abuse strongly preferred. CPR/AED/first aid/naloxone certifications or willingness to be certified required. Basic computer literacy also required. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary. Bilingual preferred.
